Memorandum of Understanding

The Port of Victoria provides direct water connections to the 6th largest seaport in the world, which is the Port of Houston

On February 28, 2005, the Port of Victoria and the Port of Houston Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two Ports. This agreement will allow for economic development in Victoria and an improvement in air quality in the greater Houston area. A container on barge project between the two ports involves moving freight via barge between the Ports of Houston and Victoria. This will lead to direct substantial reductions in Nox emissions, reduced congestion on Texas highways and reduce highway maintenance cost. It will also reduce accident incident rates with trucks, noise pollution and extend the life of Texas highways. To see a copy of the Memorandum of Understanding, please click here.

Erosion Control

Largely due to Hurricane Claudette, we have had to deal with an erosion problem at the Port. The Port of Victoria received a grant from FEMA to clean up, repair and restore these problem areas. In the picture to the right, you can see the concrete mats that we have placed near the shoreline to prevent erosion in the future. The mats will be followed by a vinyl covering placed over them.
